How to plan the architecture of a Sales Funnel

We suggest the following way to think about a sales-funnel:

You need to provide value on each step of your sales funnel. Start by giving away free tips or tools.

Each step on the sales-funnel has to relate to the next one and all others. You can’t tell different stories across different parts of a sales funnel.

You need to keep the commitment low in the beginning (few form fields, no or very low price, small time commitment)

You raise the commitment over time as you gain trust through delivering value. Create a series of offers starting from free, to mid-priced, to high-priced.

Experimentation on the top of the funnel is cheaper then in the bottom. Testing which ads gets the most clicks is by definition cheaper than testing the next step in the funnel, for example to generate leads. As leads will always be more expensive than the clicks that are needed to get that lead.

When thinking about lead magnets or free offers, think about the framing and the kind of value. It has to be equal as your mid-priced and high-priced offer. Your free offer could be an extra-light version of your main product. So something like a Free Demo, a Free Video or a Free Trial always showing the same solution.

Most products and services can be framed in different ways and therefore speak to different groups of the market. For example we have been marketing financial products to car-tuners or gamers. If we use the gaming-interests and connect them to our generic financial product, the offers become way more relevant. Every generic product can be combined with non-generic factors like places, hobbies, interests, so it becomes non-generic in the eyes of the viewer as it relates to things he is emotional about. You transmit the emotion of his most liked interests on your very generic product.

The parts where you get clicks and leads, as well as the conversion to a sale are equally important. One does not work without the other.
